WW 2027 Easter Trip: Denia, Spain
We are looking forward to our Easter 2027 trip when we will again stay at Hotel Port Dénia in the beautiful coastal town of Dénia in the Alicante region in Spain. Full details of the trip will be outlined at our meeting in Willow Park School Cafeteria at 7:30pm on Wed. 14 Oct.
Our 2027 travel dates move with Easter, so are earlier than 2026, and subject to available flights (which may delay by 24 hours), but currently expected to be from Sat. 20 to Fri. 26 March 2027. We plan to fly from Dublin to either Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport or Valencia Airport, both of which are only a little over an hour by bus from Dénia. Family members of Willow Wheelers are very welcome to join us on our adventure to Dénia!
Costs:
Total cost per person sharing is currently under discussion, but in the order of magnitude cost is expected to be similar to last year. A non-refundable deposit of €360 must be paid by each member planning to travel by 5pm on Sunday 18 October. We have looked at many options in various countries and were partly limited as Easter is relatively early in 2027, but we are working hard to ensure that we get the best possible value for money. The final trip cost will vary depending on number of participants, and remains subject to sufficient participation. A supplement to be confirmed (last year €58pp per night) will also be charged for anyone who requires a single room.
Please pay the non-refundable deposit of €360 by completing the form at the following link:
On this form, we request that you include the following information: (1) Forename(s); Surname of member exactly as set out in passport; (2) Date of birth; (3) Address; (4) Contact number; (5) Contact email; (6) Emergency contact name; (6) Emergency contact number; (7) Year-Group; (8) Indicate you require a single room, which will involve supplement (9) Passport number; (10) Passport expiry date; (11) Place of birth; (12) Note if you require one-way flight or other relevant information for your trip; (13) Confirmation of your WW membership; (14) Your Cycling Ireland Number and (14) Credit/debit card payment details for €360. You are also requested to send a copy of your passport to us by email. You will get your Cycling Ireland number by logging into the Cycling Ireland website and checking your personal details. Anyone requesting a single room, which is subject to availability and a supplemental charge, should note the request in the above form.
Flights:
Boarding passes will be issued closer to the departure date. For security reasons, we cannot publish check-in details on this website. As noted above, our travel dates may delay by 24 hours, but we expect to fly from Dublin to either Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport or Valencia Airport, both of which are only a little over an hour by bus from Dénia.
Bus transport will be arranged in Spain to and from the hotel and airport.
Bicycles & luggage transport on truck to Spain: Bikes will be dropped with luggage to Willow Park School at a time and date to be advised closer to departure. Soft luggage bags preferred as they facilitate safe stacking of bicycles.
Hotel: We will be staying at Hotel Port Dénia, in Dénia. The hotel located about 2 minutes walk from the beach (Playa de la Marineta Casiana). Rooms will be allocated by the Club and cannot be altered unless approved by a Club Committee member.
Location: Denia is a historic coastal town between the cities of Valencia and Alicante. It is considered one of the oldest ports in Spain and boasts a fine fortress that dates back to early Islamic times. Denia a great base for exploring the region by bicycle with plenty of route options, including some relatively flat coastal routes as well as some more challenging routes into the hills, many of which pass through historic towns which provide opportunities for interesting lunch and coffee stops. In fact, if you love your food, Dénia is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. We will examine potential cycling routes in more detail in due course, but as a route taster you might want to check out a few routes from Dénia by clicking HERE. Also, for a very short video that gives a flavour of Denia, click HERE. Rumour has it that not everyone cycled up the fabulous Coll de Rates climb, so another opportunity presents itself again to you in 2027!
Weather: During late March, the weather in Dénia is typically mild, with temperatures peaking around 19°C, relatively low rainfall and about 7 hours of sun daily. With moderate humidity and a gentle sea breeze, the atmosphere is comfortable, good for cycling.
