Hi Willow Wheelers,

The European Trip Easter 2026 meeting will take place at 7:30pm Tuesday 7th October in the Willow Cafeteria, Willow Park School with entry from the school lower carpark. Details of the location, hotel and expected cost will be presented and discussed on the night, so we encourage anyone interested in the trip to come to the briefing meeting.  In addition, we will be looking for interest in purchasing WW Club Cycling Gear and outlining some options available at the meeting.

Our Easter trip is provisionally expected to be to the beautiful town of Dénia in Spain. Our travel dates are subject to available flights and may delay by 24 hours, but currently expected to be from Sat. 28 March to Fri. 3 April 2026. We plan to fly from Dublin to either Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport or Valencia Airport, both of which are only a little over an hour by bus from Dénia.

Denia is a historic coastal town between the cities of Valencia and Alicante. It is considered one of the oldest ports in Spain and boasts a fine fortress that dates back to early Islamic times.  Denia a great base for exploring the region by bicycle with plenty of route options, including some relatively flat coastal routes as well as some more challenging routes into the hills, many of which pass through historic towns which provide opportunities for interesting lunch and coffee stops. In fact, if you love your food, Dénia is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.  We will examine potential cycling routes in more detail in due course, but as a route taster you might want to check out a few routes from Dénia by clicking HERE.  Also, for a very short video that gives a flavour of Denia, click HERE.

During late March / early April, the weather in Dénia is typically warm but not too hot, with temperatures peaking around 21°C, relatively low rainfall and about 8 hours of sun daily. With moderate humidity and a gentle sea breeze, the atmosphere is comfortable, perfect for cycling.

As usual, we will arrange to bring your bicycles and luggage to Spain a few days before departure and will arrange bus transport to and from Denia, which allows you to fly hand-luggage only. The arrangement with the hotel will be similar to previous years, with breakfast and evening meal provided.  We will also provide the option of single rooms for adults for a cost supplement on a first-come-first-served basis.

Our trip and costs are contingent on getting sufficient participation, so anyone interested in participating on the trip should attend or send a representative to the meeting. Names of interested participants will be taken immediately following the meeting or should be advised to Marcie Dowdall or any member of the WW Committee asap if you are unable to attend. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Members who wish to join the trip will need to pay a non-refundable deposit of €357, the deadline for receipt of this deposit and payment details will be advised on the night.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!
