6th Form Willow Wheelers Sunday Spin
By Andrew and Liam J6
Sunday was a lovely bright day, so it was a great day for a cycle. As usual we met in the carpark before 10:00.
Because the day was so nice, it was decided to go on a good long cycle….to Greystones.
Before we left, we had a minute’s silence for Christy, it was nice to remember him this way and it was also respectful. Christy was a teacher in Willow and he founded the Willow Wheelers. We only met him a few times but we knew him as funny, kind and he knew everything about bikes. For instance he told me (Andrew) that my bike was too low down, so I changed the saddle and it made all the difference. Our Dads told us that Christy had died and we felt very sad.
It was an honour to be part of the Guard of Honour for him outside Booterstown Church.
Now for the cycle……… ten Sixth Form guys and their parents left the school and headed for Bray, past Deansgrange and onto the N11. The road was busy so we glad to have a cycle path. On the way to Greystones there is a really big hill, we were glad of our new lighter bikes. Low gears come in handy when you are facing big hills. At the top, it felt great, the views were lovely and we could see Greystones and the Sugar Loaf.
We stopped for something to eat, I had chicken bites and a bar of chocolate (Liam) and I had a sausage roll and some Lucozade. (Andrew)
The cycle home was tough but once we got over the hills it was all smooth sailing.
We are very excited about the upcoming trip to Spain, this will be our first trip away with the Willow Wheelers and we are also hoping to do the 100-Mile Cycle on the May Bank holiday.
The Willow Wheelers is really enjoyable because it is fun and you feel part of a community.
