My first cycle with the Willow Wheelers, by Cathal Mc Polin
My first cycle with the Willow Wheelers, by Cathal Mc Polin.
I did my very first Willow Wheelers cycle last Saturday (hopefully many more to come) and loved it! It is a testament to the school and to the Willow Wheelers instructors that they can arrange things like these. We started the cycle in the parking lot of Blackrock College and went up to Trimleston, taking a right at UCD and going down the cycle path past RTE Studios where one of the dads took photos.

We travelled up Eglington Road which had really heavy traffic. We stopped at Applegreen and were amused when we saw a line of cars honking for five minutes straight (due to roadworks). The founder of the Willow Wheelers Christy was waiting for our noisy arrival at Applegreen. Thankfully Dave the leader arranged for us to skip through lights at the roadworks when we were leaving Applegreen.

We went up through Goatstown, where those with heavier bikes found it a big challenge. Some of us looked back and saw some of the mums stuck at the lights. It started drizzling on our arrival to Sandyford Industrial Estate (so we took a break to put on put on our coats). On our final stretch where we cycled down quieter roads in Stillorgan and Blackrock finishing back at the carpark where we started. The parents and children are excited and eager to do it all over again next Saturday.

A big thank you to Dave, the leaders, the parents and Mrs. O Donoghue.
